KATUSA Care

Care for Korean Augmentation to the United States Army (KATUSA)

KATUSA are Republic of Korea (ROK) Army Soldiers assigned to support U.S. Army units. While their primary medical support is provided through the ROK Army medical system, BDAACH provides emergency, urgent, and limited acute care services to KATUSA.

KATUSA may receive care in the following health care settings:

  • Emergency Department
  • Unit, Hospital, and Dental Sick Call
  • Soldier-Centered Medical Home (SCMH)
  • Patient-Centered Medical Home (PCMH)

Services Available to KATUSA

BDAACH provides care for acute medical conditions only, except in case of emergencies. BDAACH provides emergency medical care for serious or life-threatening conditions involving loss of life, limb, or eyesight. Acute conditions are generally illnesses or injuries that began within the last 21 days. Chronic medical conditions (requiring ongoing management, specialty care, or long-term treatment) are typically referred to the ROK Army medical system.

Unit Sick Call

Unit Sick Call is the primary location for KATUSA medical evaluation and treatment. If a condition requires a higher level of evaluation or treatment, the patient may be referred to another clinic or service as listed below.

Primary Care

KATUSA may receive care for short-term medical conditions such as:

  • Minor Injuries: Sprains, Strains, Cuts, Bruises
  • Common Illnesses: Cold, Flu, other Viral Infections
  • Skin Conditions: Rashes, Insect Bites, Minor Burns
  • Infections: UTIs, Sinus Infections, Strep Throat
  • Minor Procedures: Wound Care, Splinter Removal, Stitches

Pharmacy

KATUSA may get prescriptions written by Military Health System (MHS) providers filled at the BDAACH Pharmacy. Please note:

  • Prescriptions written by non-MHS providers, including Korean civilian hospitals, cannot be filled at BDAACH.
  • Most medications are limited to a maximum 30-day supply with no refills.
  • Some medications may not be available or authorized.

Lab

Laboratory testing may be provided when necessary to evaluate an acute medical condition.

Radiology

Basic X-rays may be ordered when medically necessary for an acute illness or injury.

Mental Health

Mental health services are available for urgent mental health concerns

Dental

Dental services are limited to urgent or acute dental conditions such as dental pain, infections, and trauma.

Optometry

Limited optometry services are available for acute eye-related conditions and for prescription eyewear required for military protective mask use.

How to Receive Care

All patients must present a valid DoD ID in order to receive care at Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs). For KATUSA, this means presenting a Common Access Card (CAC) when requesting care.

KATUSA CAC Process

Enroll in DEERS at Brigade S1

  1. Provide the following documents to the RAPIDS SSM / VO.
    a. KATUSA Access to Care MFR signed by an O6
    b. Two forms of Photo Identification (English Translation)
    c. KATUSA Clearance MFR from ROK Defense Security Support Command
    d. DD1172-2 digitally signed by O5 or higher

  2. The RAPIDS SSM / VO will enroll you in DEERS. You’ll be assigned a DoD ID Number and FIN. Make sure both are written down on the DD1172-2.

Request Sponsorship at Brigade S2

  1. Allow 24 hours for DEERS to feed data to MP ICAM system.
  2. Provide the DD1172 with the DoD ID Number and FIN to the MPAS.
  3. The MPAS will initiate an application in the MP ICAM Sponsorship Portal and grant you sponsorship.

Return to S1 to receive CAC

  1. RAPIDS SSM / VO will take your photo and fingerprints and generate a .mil email.
  2. You will receive a CAC with your DoD ID Number on it.

Register in MHS GENESIS at BDAACH A&D

  1. Provide your CAC to A&D staff (BDAACH 1st Floor, Rm HG200) and fill out the KATUSA Patient Registration Form.
  2. Once A&D creates your MHS GENESIS profile, you’ll be ready to receive care!
