  1. Congratulations on your assignment to the 106th MDVSS/VRA, K! The 106th MDVSS/VRA, K is the best veterinary unit in the United States Army and the only one assigned a dual MTO&E & TDA mission. The 106th MDVSS/VRA, K is a direct reporting unit to the 65th Medical Brigade at Camp Humphreys. As part of Eighth Army and United Stated Forces Korea, we are on the cutting edge of providing world-class combat health service support to America's finest Warriors. We are the assignment of choice. I am certain you will find this a challenging and rewarding assignment.
  2. The following is a brief history of the 106th MDVSS. The 106th MDVSS was first activated on 1 October 1944 in New Guinea and saw action in the Philippines Luzon Campaign from 17 October 1944 to 4 July 1945. The 106th MDVSS again saw action in the Korean Conflict from 21 March 1951 to 27 July 1953 in support of the United Nations. The unit received two Meritorious Unit Citations and one Philippine Presidential Unit Citation.
  3. The detachment's total personnel varies from 55 to 75 personnel. There are several teams within the detachment, including Headquarters (HQ), five Veterinary Service Support Teams (VSST), a Food Procurement and Laboratory Team (FPLT), a Veterinary Medical and Surgical Team (VMST), and Korean Augmentation to the United States Army (KATUSAs). The HQ, FPLT, VMST, VSSTs 2 and 3, and KATUSAs are located at Camp Humphreys (Pyeongtaek). VSST 4 is located at Camp Walker (Daegu), VSST 5 is located at Osan Air Force Base (Osan), and VSST 1 is located at Camp Casey (Dongducheon).
  4. Upon arrival, you will in-process through Maude Hall and belong to 19th HRC at Camp Humphreys for approximately five days. Upon completion of in-processing with 19th HRC, a member of the 106th MDVSS will sign out and assist you with the process of in-processing with the unit. Upon arrival at the 106th MDVSS, you will receive your team assignment and pinpoint orders.
  5. Command-sponsored personnel will need to make reservations at Camp Humphreys Lodging, and their sponsor can support them upon request.

Mission

The 106th Medical Detachment (Veterinary Support Service) is a diverse organization in South Korea.  Our primary mission is to provide support if necessary for the transition to hostilities.  However, we are also responsible for veterinary public healthcare support through comprehensive food protection and veterinary medical and surgical care for government owned animals.  Our mission of veterinary medical and surgical care for privately owned animals limited due to our primary mission and therefore is on a space available basis.
